Frequently asked questions

What should I expect at my first visit?
When you arrive, you will need to fill out a short health history form. We will discuss your needs for the day (pain relief, general relaxation, ect.,) this is a good time to ask any questions and voice any concerns you might have. I will then leave the room and give you time to undress and get comfortable on the massage table under the sheets. You should take off only as much as you are comfortable removing. A sheet is provided for draping during the massage. I will uncover only the part of the body being massaged, insuring that modesty is respected at all times. You should also remove any jewelry or other articles that might interfere with the massage.

What should I do during the massage?
Make yourself comfortable. Massage is most effective when your body is not resisting. Most people close their eyes and quietly relax. Feel free to ask any questions about massage in general or about a particular technique you are receiving. Don’t forget to breathe, long, deep cleansing breaths.

How will massage feel?
Massage on healthy tissue feels good. Working on an area of injury or chronic pain may cause some discomfort. Always communicate any discomfort or pain so your treatment can be adjusted to your needs.

What should I wear?
You may undress to your level of comfort. During the massage you will be covered with a sheet and/or blanket. The sheet will be moved, uncovering one area of the body at a time (such as leg, arm, or back). After the area is massaged, it will again be covered. For Reiki, loose comfortable clothes should be worn.

Benefits of Massage:

Massage offers a drug-free, non-invasive  approach to health care based on the body's natural ability to heal itself. Massage gives the body a chance to release stress, pain and emotional fatigue. Here is a brief list of the many known, research-based benefits of massage and bodywork:

- Increases circulation, allowing the body to pump more oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs.  Increased circulation of the blood and lymph systems improves the condition of the body's largest organ -- the skin

- Releases endorphins - the body's natural painkiller

- Stimulates the flow of lymph - increasing immune function

- Relaxes and softens injured and overused muscles

- Reduces spasms and cramping

- Increases joint flexibility - Improving range-of-motion and decreases discomfort for patients joint pain or stiffness

- Reduces recovery time and helps prepare the body for strenuous workouts, reducing subsequent muscle pain of athletes at any level

- Reduces post-surgery adhesions and edema and can be used to reduce and realign scar tissue after healing has occurred

- Relieves pain for migraine and headache sufferers

- Provides exercise and stretching for atrophied muscles and reduces shortening of the muscles for those with restricted range of motion

-Increase circulation and decrease edema for pregnant women
